Snow Falling on Rohan

As the snow fell heavily over Rohan, Eowyn sat cross-legged on her bed with Faramir. The two were wrapped in the same patchwork quilt, using body heat to keep warm. Normally, the newly weds would be riding across the plains, enjoying the beautiful scenery, but Faramir had come down with a sniffle.

"Ukchshhh! Kuhchshhh!" he sneezed into the back of his hand, groaning softly. His head felt heavy and his throat raw. No matter how close he snuggled to his wife, he could not seem to get properly warm.

"Bless." Eowyn whispered. "Faramir..." she handed a clean handkerchief to him over her shoulder, grimacing as he blew his nose. "What is your fondest Yule memory?" She sighed in content, listening to the wind howling against the wood and stone.

"Ukshhuh! Kushhh!" Faramir sniffed wetly, rubbing his nose with the thin fabric square. In all truth, he could not remember a happy holiday. He'd not been the favorite child of Denethor, Steward of Gondor, so he was often left out in the celebrations. Boromir tried to include his younger brother in the festivities, but it always wound up with Faramir sitting by himself.

"I dod really hab ady," he mumbled, not wanting to go into full detail. He loved seeing Eowyn so happy, and did not want to ruin the mood for her. Eowyn frowned slightly, feeling her heart break in two. She turned her head so her grey eyes gazed into his dark brown ones, and she gave him a cheerful smile.

"Then..." she squeezed his hand affectionately. "I will make sure you have some."

Faramir managed a smile back, feeling like the luckiest man in the world.
