Title: Because You Love Me
The high mountains and rolling, grassy hills were absolutely beautiful. William Moseley stepped out of his car on the set of the "Chronicles of Narnia, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe", and beamed at the sight before him. He, along with co-stars Anna Poppelwell, Georgie Henley, Skandar Keyes and others, arrived in the country just a week before. They were grateful to be able to film in fresh air, not in the somewhat chlostrophobic indoor studios they had worked with since the start. He reached into the glove compartment on the passenger side, pulling out a pack of tissues, and stuffing them into the pocket of his jeans. Will had mild hay fever, which, though it wasn't too bad, seemed to be acting up more than usual in this country. He'd woken up feeling particuarily stuffy that morning, and had to take a hot shower to clear his nose and ease the persistant fits of sneezing. He felt slightly better since he left, but his nose still tickled. On his way to the make-up bus, Will suddenly hear shrieks of delight in the distance. Before he knew what was going on, a small figure leapt into his arms, and began pecking kisses all over his face. "Good morning, Georgie," he greeted the eight year old girl, who clung to his neck, her eyes sparkling. As Will carried her towards the bus, he could see Anna standing by the entrance, smiling rather shyly. After he let Georgie down, he gave Anna a hug and a kiss on the cheek, squeezing her hands, which were so warm and soft. "Hello, you," she greeted, as he put an arm around her shoulder. "Sleep well?" she asked as they stepped into the trailer, finding Skandar head-banging to music he was listening to on his Ipod. Each of the actors had been given Ipods as a gift for their hard work on the production, to give them something to do during the down times on the set. "Well enough," he replied. "Someone's hyper," he added, as Georgie hopped up and down repeatedly. Will helped Anna into her chair, a gesture which she thanked him graciously for, and then sat down in his own. "Ummph!" Will grunted as Georgie plopped down on his lap. She squirmed when he reached into his pocket, pulling out the package of tissues, feeling a slight tickle build up. "You look funny through the mirror, Will," Georgie laughed, noticing how his face had crinkled. "Are you all right?" Anna asked, frowning, and Will managed to pull out a tissue just in time. "KehUMMMPshhh! HehKshhhh! KusHEEESH!" he turned away from Georgie, trying to stifle his sneezes, but with no such luck. "Bless you!" Anna and Georgie told him in unison. Skandar was too focused on his music to notice, and only took out his headphones when Nikki, the make-up-artist, came in. "Oh Will," Anna breathed. "I hope you aren't getting sick..." Will shook his head, blowing his nose. "I'm not sick," he promised, as Georgie was asked to hop down and give Will a bit of breathing room. "It's just allergies. I've been sn...eh...HemmPHShhhh! ugh--sdneezing all bording." he gave his nose another blow, accepting a cup of freshly brewed, hot tea. "Bless you," everyone told him again, and Nikki clucked her tongue. "I hope your nose will cooperate while I'm applying the base," she laughed. "I suppose you'll go first, then, just to be safe. Georgie, sweetie, can you grab me the bottle of witch hazel?" Will rubbed at his nose again, sipping from the tea, which soothed his scratchy throat somewhat. "That's fine," he said, sniffling wetly. He set the tea aside while Nikki prepared to apply the stinky solution, and closed his eyes. He could feel Anna's eyes on him still, and he opened one of his own to glance at her. She turned away, tapping her tea cup and he could detect a blush in her cheeks. He'd known Anna for a good while before the production even began; they went through a lot of the hefty auditioning process together, and became close friends. Sometimes, though, he found himself wondering whether he really felt as though she were more than a friend. He found her beauty bewitching, and could sit and stare at her for hours. On top of her looks, she was such a gentle, caring person inside as well, and drew anyone in. "Is it safe to rub a bit of this on your nose?" Nikki asked, jolting Will from his daydream. He could detect the solution's somewhat spicey scent even through his plugged up nose, and nodded. "Sure," he replied, and he held his breath while she began rubbing the miniature piece of foam agaist his skin. "I saw some of the prettiest wild flower patches today," Georgie began, as she played with Anna's soft brown hair. "All different colors...blue, purple, yellow...the air smells so lovely in New Zealand! The people who live here are very lucky, in deed!" "Did you pick any flowers, Georgie?" Anna asked, ignoring Skandar's look of disgust. "Not yet," Georgie replied sweetly. "I've been much too busy." Will chuckled warmly, relieved when Nikki put the witch hazel away. "Perhaps during lunch we'll sit in a wild flower patch," Anna suggested. "and I can help you choose which ones to make into a boquet. I think a flower or two would look lovely in your hair." "Huh...Eksheeeh! Kahsheeesh!" Will snapped forward, covering the lower half of his face with the palm of his hand. Of course, he was careful not to touch his skin, which would soon be covered by thick, cake powder. "Bless you, Will," Anna told him, clucking her tongue. "Thanks," he whispered. After Nikki applied the rest of his make up-including the eye liner and lip paint, she sent him over to the wardrobe trailer. Will didn't necessarily mind having make-up on, though the thick base made his face itch, and the feeling eventually spread to his nose again. He felt the sudden urge to sneeze as soon as he reached the wardrobe trailer door, his face scrunching up. "Ah, there you." Vanessa Cole, the woman in charge of wardrobe, paused when she saw the expression on his face. He held up one hand, the other covering his mouth in preparation. "Heh.eh.KetCSHHHH! HuhKshhhhoo!" he cleared his throat afterwards, giving her an apologetic smile. "Sorry," he croaked, and she nodded. "Bless you," she told him softly, as she helped him up the steps. "Coming down with a cold, Will?" she asked, as she began rummaging through the costumes on the rack. Will flopped down on one of the chairs, accepting a tissue. "Doe." he blew his nose, sniffling. "No," he corrected himself. "My allergies are working up, that's all. Been sneezing like mad all day." As if on cue, he clasped the tissue over his mouth and nose, sneezing again. "HehKSHHHH!" he groaned, wanting to bang his head against the wall. "Bless you!" Vanessa exclaimed, offering another tissue, which he accepted gratefully. "Well, let's make sure all of your sneezes are out before we start getting you into costume, okay? Your make up looks fantastic, by the way." Will smirked. "Thanks," he replied, and eventually got out of the pair of bluejeans and sweatshirt he'd thrown on before leaving the hotel that morning. He dressed in the brown breeches, the grey tunic, and the dak brown vest, and looked at himself in the mirror. His nose was rather red and blotchy, though Nikki had done her best to cover it up. He hated feeling like this; there was something about the New Zealand air that was making him sneeze this much. He never sneezed so frequently in England. "Handsome as usual." Vanessa smoothed the wrinkles out of his clothes, and handed him his sword. "Thanks." He sniffed, rubbing his nose gently with the back of his hand. He eventually stepped outside, watching as extras were being fitted into their own costumes. Tilda Swinton greeted him from where she sat at one of the picnic tables, dressed in her full White Witch outfit. She looked truly terrifying, and had Will not known what she looked like prior to wardrobe, he would have been downright terrified. "How are you?" she asked, when he joined her. "All right," he replied. "Just a bit stopped up." He found his gaze turning towards the make up trailer, waiting for Anna to come out. *Talk to her about how you feel,* a voice spoke inside of his head. "Tilda?" he asked softly, and the older woman looked at him kindly. "Yes, dear?" "I.wanted to ask you something. This is rather awkward, but I wanted an opinion." "Of course." She turned her full attention to him, and Will fiddled uncomfortably with the hilt of his sword. "I really like Anna," he said bluntly, and she laughed. "I can tell!" she smoothed his bangs away from his eyes. "I don't think you have been able to keep your eyes off of her for the past couple of weeks." Will blushed. "I haven't," he admitted. "I want to tell her I'd like to be her.well, her boyfriend, but would that be a bit strange? I mean, especially since we work together, and we'll have the press all over us and every.ev." Will apologized quickly, turning away. "KuhESHHH! HahKESHHHH! EhSHHHHOOO!" he paused, expecting more, but when nothing else came, he lowered his hand. "Bless you," Tilda told him softly, and he nodded. "Thanks," he croaked. "Sorry. But.do you think she'd think I was weird if I asked her out?" Tilda chuckled. "Will, I think it is important for friends to be open with each other. If you feel as though you are hoping you two will be more than friends, I would pull her aside and ask how she feels. It is better to get it out in the open, love, before she finds out by rumor." Will nodded, feeling slightly overwhelmed by the aroma of the flora and fauna surrounding the set. "I'm really sorry," he apologized. "I have to sneeze like crazy here." He got up and went off to the side, allowing himself to let loose. "HakESHHH! HuhKshhhh! HuhSHHHEH! Hekshhhmph!" he paused, feeling Tilda rub his back gently. Anna came out of the trailer at that moment, waving. Will luckily managed to take a good breath, the tingle dying down considerably. "Should I tell her you'd like to pull her aside later?" Tilda asked, once he'd managed to calm down enough and blow his nose. "No," he replied. "We're running tight on time, so I'll talk to her during lunch I suppose." He looked at the older woman. "So you don't think it would be weird if I asked her out?" Tilda smiled, which actually looked quite creepy underneath her make up and costume. "Go for it," she replied. "Just be yourself, honey." Will smiled, thanking her, and trooped down across the lawn to towards Andrew. The director stood talking with an extra, dressed up as a battle faun, and turned when he saw Will approaching. "Ah, there you are. All ready, mate?" Andrew greeted, shaking hands with him. "How are you doing?" Will shrugged, folding his arms. "A little sneezy.I'm allergic to the pollen or something. Funny, because I've neer had such a bad reaction before coming here." Andrew frowned. "Do you have medication, or do you need it?" he asked, and Will shook his head. "I don't have any," Will admitted. "As I said, I haven't had any need." "Well, to be on the safe side, why don't we get you a few Allegra pills? They wont go into effect for a bit, but at least you'll have something. The last thing we want to have happen is for you to break into a sneezing fit in the middle of the shoot, understand my meaning?" Will blew out his breath, and nodded. "Yeah. All right, that should be good." Andrew patted his shoulder. "You're already sounding a bit more stuffed up than I'd like, but we'll have to make do." "Sorry," Will apologized, feeling a blush creep into his cheeks. "No problem.it's nothing you can control. I'll be right back with your meds.just hang out for a bit, and we'll get started." Andrew hurried off just as Anna appeared, in full costume and make-up as well. "Hello," she greeted. "How are you feeling?" Will cleared his throat. "A little better," he replied. "I.I would like to talk to you in private at lunch today, if that's all right," he added before he could stop himself. She looked a bit surprised by his request, but nodded al the same, blushing again. "Of course." Will grinned, as Georgie and Skandar made their appreaance. Andrew eventually appeared with two pills and a bottle of water, handing both items to Will. He gratefully chugged them down, and went to his assigned spot for the beginning of the scene. Andrew soon got out the loud speaker, and began shouting directions to everybody. Anna gave Will's hand a squeeze, anda quick kiss for luck at he sound of, "Lights, camera, action!" had Will not been paying attention to the tickle that was starting to build in his nose again, he would have felt embarrassed by her affection. Will did his best to focus on the scene, and, keeping his sword by his side, had to pretend he was talking to Aslan. Liam Neeson had already pre-recorded his voice for the movie, but the lion itself was CGI. Will experienced the same situation involving the beavers/ only real actors were put in place of the animation, and their actions were matched to the movements on the computer. It was all amazing, really, how much work went into just setting up one scene. And it really required an actor to use his imagination to the best of his ability. Will spoke his lines as best as he could, while listening to a tape recording of Liam's voice. Before he landed his orle in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Will hadn't experienced acting very much. He'd tried out for several roles, but another boy would always get the part in the end. He acted a bit on stage in school, but that was nothing compared to what it took to make a film. Anna, however, had more experience with film than the four of them combined. Her small role in Girl with a Pearl Earing was her most recent, in fact. About halfway through the scene, the tickle became unbearable, and Will could think of nothing to do to relieve it but to sneeze as much as possible. He didn't care that the cameras were still rolling; he dropped his sword, which hit the ground with a *clang*, and allowed the sneezes to come. "HehISHHH! HuhTCSHHHH! HahKSHHHH! HuhKshhhh!" they were strong and quiet, robbing him of most of his energy. Anna rushed to his side once Andrew yelled "CUT!" and knelt down on the ground, pulling him close to her. Georgie began to cry in fear as everyone crowded around Will, ordering water, tissues, etc. Will continued sneezing rapidly, leaning back into Anna's arms. When the fit finally ended, he struggled to take a good breath, holding her hand and squeezing it tight. "Give him some water," Andrew ordered, accepting the water bottle tossed his way, and he unscrewed the cap, easing the tip of the bottle against Will's lips. "Take a small sip, all right? You're all right, now." Anna smoothed Will's hair, tears falling down her cheeks as she watched him drink from the bottle. "Is he gonna be okay?" Skandar asked, watching as Tilda pulled Georgie aside, trying her best to comfort the youngest of the children. James McAvoy, who played Mr. Tumnus, joined Tilda, and the two lead a still-sobbing Georgie away from the group. "Will? Can you hear me?" Andrew asked, tapping his cheek. Will gulped, opening his eyes. "What?" he croaked, and Anna let out a small laugh of relief, kissing him on the cheek. "We're going to get you inside so you can have a chance to calm down," Andrew said. "we're not at all behind schedule, so we can afford this," he added, when Will started to say that he was fine. "you're not fine. You need to relax. Anna, I'll let you stay with him in case he needs anything. Skandar, go and check up on Georgie, will you?" With K.C., the AD's help, Anna managed to help Will stumble into the nearest trailer, which happened to be the wardrobe trailer, and eased him onto one of the couches. Vanessa immediately set to boiling water for tea, and Anna cuddled next to Will. "Do you need anything else?" K.C. asked, and Will shook his head, blowing his nose with a tissue. "Ib sorry," he croaked, and the older man shook his head. "It's not your fault. Just take it easy for a while, okay?" he left the trailer, shutting the door behind him. When he and Vanessa were out of earshot, Anna wrapped her arms around her friend, burying her face against his shoulder. Will held her, patting her back awkwardly. "You really scared me," she said softly. "you couldn't breathe for a bit there." Will took another sip of water, his throat rather dry from all of the sneezing. "Well," he croaked, "I'm fine now. Thanks for being there for me, Anna," he added, and she smiled. "You're welcome." She kissed his forehead. "I.I wanted to ask you something," he said, struggling to sit up a bit straighter. She took his free hand, massaging his fingers, which were rough from hours of sword fighting practice. "What is it?" she cocked her head to one side. "Well.oh, I can't.I don't." he cleared his throat. "Will, are you all right?" she frowned. "Anna, I love you," he finally blurted, and silence followed his words. He felt his heart racing, and by the look of complete shock on her face, wished he could sink through the floor at that very moment. "You." she wet her lips. "When.did." "I fell in love with you from when we met, actually," he explained. "I just haven't been able to pluck up the courage to say it. Figures it comes after I've had an allergy attack," he added, sniffling. "not the most romantic, eh?" he rubbed his nose, and she looked down at her lap. "Anna, I'm sorry.that was a little blunt," he told her. "I shouldn't have said it.if you don't feel the same way, I understand.but.I just." She touched his lips with her fingers, and gazed into his eyes. "I'm glad you did," she whispered, and he stared. "You are?" he asked, and she kissed his lips gently. "Yes, because I love you, too." Her cheeks were bright red, now. "Wow." He sniffed. "Would you.be my girlfriend? I know it's a bit weird because we're co-stars and have to deal with all of the press, but we don't have to tell anyone if it's too uncomfortable." Anna chuckled warmly. "I don't mind the press," she said. "I care about you, Will, and I would be honored to be your girlfriend. However, I'm afraid Georgie will be a bit jealous.she adores you too, you know." at that moment the door to the trailer flung open, and the little eight year old girl flung herself into the trailer. "Oh Will," she sobbed, clinging to his arms. "I was so scared! Are you all right?" Will patted her on the head. "Of course," he replied. "I'm much better now. I'm sorry I scared you," he added, giving her a hug. "What are those?" Anna asked, pointing to something Georgie held in her free hand. "Oh," she said, presenting Will a handful of wildflowers. "I picked these for you, because I thought they might cheer you up." Will and Anna glanced at each other, and Will pulled a tissue out from the box on his lap. "Georgie, I'm afraid Will's allergic to them," Anna said softly, and Georgie blinked. "Well, we don't know which ones exactly," Will whispered, his breath quicking. "Georgie, I appreciate it. "They're beautiful," he said. "but they make me." Anna pulled Georgie away so they could give him a bit of space. "Go on, toss them outside," Anna encouraged, and Georgie stepped back. "I'm.I'm sorry," she sobbed, and flew out of the trailer, just as Will let out another, "HehShOOOo! EtsHoooo!" he blew his nose loudly, his head spinning as Anna joined him on the couch again. "Bless you," she said with a shake of her head. "Poor Georgie.she had good intentions," she laughed, and Will looked into her eyes. For a moment they both gazed at each other lovingly, and Will pulled her face close to his own, so their foreheads were touching. "I'm so lucky, Anna. I wanted to make sure I asked you soon, before somebody else came along." Anna kissed the tip of his nose. "No one else would have come along, Will. You were who mattered," she replied, and they shared another kiss. Once Will's medication began to go into effect, he felt considerably better. Skandar popped his head through the trailer door to say that Andrew was ready to begin again if Will was. "Georgie says she's awful sorry about the flowers," he added, and Will laughed. "Tell her it's perfectly all right," he said, allowing Anna to help him to his feet. The two of walked out of the trailer, amidst the clapping and cheering from the rest of the cast, and Will slipped his hand into hers. She smiled, and squeezed it with affection. "Good luck, sweetheart," she whispered, and once again, the day of filming began. | |||||
